Climbing Aguja Guillaumet
Flexible alpine climbing program on Aguja Guillaumet, in the Fitz Roy massif.
Climbing Aguja Guillaumet
The Aguja Guillaumet is one of the most elegant and iconic peaks of the Fitz Roy massif, offering a unique combination of alpine climbing, high-mountain environment, and outstanding views of the Patagonian landscape. This program is designed as a flexible climbing experience, adapted to the season, mountain conditions, and the actual skill level of the team.
Depending on the time of year and current conditions, Aguja Guillaumet can be climbed via snow and ice routes on its east face, or through rock climbing routes, always prioritizing safety and the best available conditions. The final choice of route is made based on weather, terrain stability, and the climber’s experience.
Program Approach
Climbing Aguja Guillaumet is offered as a flexible expedition-style program of up to 7 days, following a true Patagonian alpine approach. The initial days are spent climbing around El Chaltén, allowing for assessment of technical skills, physical condition, and rope-team dynamics, while refining efficiency and alpine techniques.
When a suitable weather window opens and conditions are favorable, the team moves in to attempt Aguja Guillaumet.
The Climb
Aguja Guillaumet features a distinctly alpine character, with glacial approaches, variable terrain, and climbing that requires strong time management, efficient movement, and constant weather awareness.
Whether the ascent involves snow and ice or rock climbing depends entirely on current conditions. This adaptability reflects the real nature of climbing in Patagonia and is a core element of the program.
