Patagonian Volcanoes

Duration: Flexible
Difficulty: High
Season: Winter - Spring

Custom ski touring programs on Patagonian and southern Chilean volcanoes, with long ascents, sustained descents, and terrain adapted to the group.

Patagonian Volcanoes

Patagonian Volcanoes

Patagonia and southern Chile, including the Araucania region, offer one of the most remarkable settings in the world for volcano ski mountaineering, with long vertical gains, consistent slopes, and terrain that is ideal for sustained ascents and long descents. These programs are designed as tailor-made ski touring experiences, adapted to the group’s technical level, previous experience, and objectives.

Unlike the glaciated terrain of Southern Patagonia, the volcanic region of northern Patagonia and southern Chile offers wide, readable slopes and long summit-to-base descents on volcanoes such as Llaima, Lonquimay, Villarrica, Osorno, and Nevados de Chillan. In the case of Villarrica, the ascent can even include visible fumaroles and volcanic activity under certain conditions, turning the outing into a truly unique mountain experience.

Main Volcanoes We Work On

These programs can take place on some of the most classic volcanoes in the region:

Llaima Volcano
Lonquimay Volcano
Villarrica Volcano, active and often with visible fumaroles
Osorno Volcano
Nevados de Chillan Volcanic Complex

Each objective offers different combinations of vertical gain, slope angle, exposure, and logistics, allowing each program to be adapted to current conditions and the real level of the group.

What the Experience Is Like

Each program starts with a personalized planning process, where the volcanoes to ski, the trip length, and the main objectives are defined. From there, the itinerary remains flexible and is adjusted according to weather, snow conditions, and group dynamics.

The days combine steady ascents, strategic breaks, and long descents, always prioritizing safety, terrain reading, and high-quality skiing. The clarity of the terrain and the regularity of the slopes also make these programs a strong option both for skiers looking to progress in backcountry travel and for more experienced participants seeking classic objectives in a different environment.
