About Me
IFMGA Mountain Guide based in El Chaltén, Patagonia.
Roberto Treu
My name is Roberto "Indio" Treu, I am an IFMGA Mountain Guide from San Juan province, and I have been living in El Chaltén since 2010. My work is primarily based in Southern Patagonia, where I have extensively guided and climbed in the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre massifs, as well as the Southern Patagonian Icefield, both inside and outside Los Glaciares National Park.
Ski mountaineering is one of my greatest passions and a central part of my work. I have made first ski descents on various Patagonian peaks and participated in ski expeditions in remote environments, including Antarctica and trips to Europe, always in alpine and committing terrain.
I have solid experience in mountaineering, alpine climbing, rock climbing, and ski mountaineering, including first ascents and complex traverses, such as the Standhardt–Herron–Egger traverse and the opening of the Directa Huarpe route on the west face of Cerro Torre.
I was a co-founder of Patagonia Ascent and, alongside guiding, I have been deeply involved in training and prevention work for many years. I am an instructor in the AAGM Mountain Guide and High Mountain Guide courses, have served as a member and director of its technical committee, and worked as coordinator of the IFMGA process in Chile. I also actively con tribute to avalanche bulletins for the El Chaltén community.
All this technical, athletic, and educational experience is directly reflected in my guiding, where I apply an alpine approach, prioritizing safety, mountain judgment, decision-making, local knowledge, and custom-designed programs tailored to the level, interests, and objectives of each person or group.
