Cerro Creston

Cerro Creston

Cerro Creston is an alpine peak located in the northern sector of El Chalten, near the Lago del Desierto Provincial Reserve. Its ascent combines glacier travel, sustained snow slopes, and a short rock or mixed climbing section before reaching the summit.

From the top, views extend toward the Southern Patagonian Icefield, the north face of Fitz Roy, and the wide landscapes surrounding Lago del Desierto, offering a different perspective from the classic Fitz Roy sector near town.

It is a versatile mountain that delivers a complete Patagonian mountaineering experience in a compact format.

Program Approach

The ascent of Cerro Creston can be organized in two formats:

Single-day ascent from El Chalten, suitable for climbers with strong physical condition.
2-day mountaineering program with an overnight stay at Refugio Creston, allowing for a more progressive approach and a deeper mountain experience.

The program is designed for 1 or 2 climbers, ensuring a personalized and safety-focused experience.

During the approach and ascent, emphasis is placed on rope-team glacier travel, crampon technique, and the transition to mixed terrain in the final section.

The Ascent

The route involves glacier travel, sustained snow slopes, and a short climbing section before reaching the final summit ridge.

Conditions vary depending on the season, requiring continuous adaptation to terrain and Patagonian weather patterns.

Cerro Creston combines different types of alpine terrain within a single ascent, making it a technically engaging objective without the commitment level of Patagonia’s major granite spires.
